Off Axis Projections off the Isometric Plane - page 5
You just created a guide with a significant number of correct ellipses around the face of the sphere. Now add a few other ellipses we know to be correct. The ellipse on the thrust line coming straight at you (0 x 0 degrees) must be a perfect circle. Any ellipse sitting on the outside of the sphere must be flat. (Use a 5 degree ellipse (10 percent vertical stretch of a circle)). Position these ellipses at the top and bottom. Then create left and right ellipses by applying a 90 degree rotation to a duplicate of the left and right side ellipses.
The next few steps will explore creating an off angle cylinder on top of a cube. In this example the cylinder will be off axis straight at you.
Select and duplicate the 0 x 0 ellipse (circle) and convert it to a curve by pressing; (Ctrl+Q) then apply a 57.4 percent vertical stretch using the Transform Roll-up to a duplicate to create a top face isometric ellipse. Manually drag this ellipse over the three intersecting ellipses at the north pole. Shift click the 0 x 0 circle and the north pole ellipse and apply a blend of 1 step. The resulting ellipse is about 55 degrees and represents the outside face of your cylinder in the correct position.
