The Gooney Bird, Locating Complex Structures in Space - page 8
step21.jpg (5559 bytes) The windows will sit on the isometric side node of the ribs. As with the door the sides must be modified to match the curved surface. Complete the window by adding a contour inside with an 0.04 inside offset.
step22.jpg (5552 bytes) Positioning the windows is a snap (pun intended). The forward window is 43.50 inches back (0.87 inches our scale) from the Station 156.50 rib. Draw a horizontal line that long and use the Property bar to correct the dimension. Each window is separated by 16 inches (0.32). . Draw another horizontal line that long and use the Property bar to correct the dimension. Marquee select both lines and apply a side effect from the IsoEval or Isometric Menu.
step23.jpg (26140 bytes)

Select the outside of the window and with the Node Edit tool select the top left node. Hit the plus sign on the Node Edit Roll-up to put a snap node in the center of the left side of the window. Select both frames and combine (Ctrl+L). With Snap to Objects turned on, snap the longer line to the outside of the side of the Station 156.50 rib. Now pick up the inner and outer window frames and snap them to the right end of the line. Snap the shorter line to the top right corner of the window. Duplicate the frame and snap to the end of the line. Repeat until you have a total of 7 windows. Fill the window frames as necessary and delete the positioning lines.
Look how far you have come with nothing but dimensions and descriptions of shapes. In the next tutorial we will build the nose section of our Gooney Bird.
