Constructing the Front & Rear Derailleur - page 6
While there is more to draw here it would all be hidden. This step is the placement of the derailleur over the chain. Copy the completed group to the bike page and position it as shown. You will need to ungroup everything and send the rear sprocket behind the front layer of the chain.

Go back to the drawing page. The front derailleur consists of two plates that cradle the chain. To develop the back plate create the following reference rectangles and position them using snaps as shown:

Red = 4.25” wide by 3.00” high.
Yellow = 0.25” wide by 0.25” high.
Orange = 2.25” wide by 1.75” high.
Gold = 1.25” wide by 1.25” high.
Chalk = 2.25” wide by 0.625” high.
Create a 0.25 Black circle and center it on the yellow square.

Draw the object shown with the blue outline with the straight line pencil tool. Convert the lines to curves, smooth and edit as shown by the green outline. Duplicate the green line and move off to the side. Leave the colored boxes and lines to use later.
