Turn on snap to objects and drag the new rectangle until it snaps to the bottom of the rounded rectangle. Shift click select the new rectangle and the rounded rectangle and align (Ctrl+A) right. Duplicate the new rectangle in place and by grabbing the right side flip it over until it is past the left side. Nudge it down a few clicks and use the trim command to correct the length of the rounded rectangle. Delete the sizing and trimming rectangles.
Create a 0.375 circle by choosing the ellipse tool (F7) and holding down the constrain key (Ctrl) while dragging across the screen. Watch the status line and correct the size with the Property Bar. Move the circle until it snaps to the nodes located at the end of the straight line segment of the top of the rounded rectangle. Shift click select both objects and Align (Ctrl+A) vertically centered. Duplicate the rounded rectangle object and set it aside. Combine (Ctrl+A) both objects. Set this object aside while you create the back of the bracket.
The side (back) is created by using the rectangle tool (F6) to produce a rectangle 1.75" high by 1" long by watching the status line and dragging across the page. You can use the Property Bar to correct minor errors only. Next choose the Node Edit (F10) tool to round the ends to 0.50" and then convert this to curves (Ctrl+Q). Get the rounded rectangle object (without the hole) and use the Transform Roll-up to rotate it 90 degrees and reduce it to 0.375" (It is 1 inch wide now so apply a 37.5% horizontal and vertical scale). |
