Working Efficiently 2 - page 6
Convert both objects into isometric top views by using the IsoEval shortcut Ctrl+Alt+G. (TI users the back is Ctrl+Alt+S, the base is Ctrl+Alt +G). Now use the Extrude Roll-up to apply the following to both objects: Back Parallel, VP Locked to object, Vanishing Point H = 0.0" V = -0.25", Object center, Apply. (TI users the back extrudes with Ctrl+Alt +R and .25" the base is Ctrl+Alt +D and .25") Use the Node Edit tool to smooth any nodes that cause extraneous lines. Select the back and use the Transform Roll-up to apply a 120 degree rotation to the base followed by a Horizontal Mirror.
Snap the back into place over the base (they overlap), In 3D CAD programs they have a command called Boolean Add that can combine both objects as though they were welded together. Since CorelDRAW lacks that command you need to do the following: Separate and un-group both objects. Choose the front face of either object and choose weld from the Arrange Menu, then point to the other front face. The overlap makes it difficult to see that the weld worked so bring the new "front" to the front (Shift+Page Up) Now choose the Node Edit (F10) tool and with Snap to objects turned on marquee select the end nodes of the base top and drag them to the intersection. Repeat with the back’s face. Bingo!
To render use the radial fill (F11) with the following settings per face:
Top of the base; Linear, Angle 90 degrees, Edge pad 10, Custom, Position 0 C6, M3, Y0, K10; Position 50 C0, M0, Y0, K0; Position 100 C6, M3, Y0, K10.
Side (the back face); Linear, Angle 60 degrees, Edge pad 15, Position 0 C6, M3, Y0, K20; Position 50 C5, M2, Y0, K5; Position 100 C6, M3, Y0, K20.
Front and Slot in the back; Linear, Angle 60 degrees, Edge pad 15, Position 0 C6, M3, Y0, K35; Position 50 C5, M2, Y0, K15; Position 100 C6, M3, Y0, K10.
Hole in the base; Linear, Angle 0 degrees, Edge pad 10, Custom, Position 0 C6, M3, Y0, K70; Position 50 C5, M2, Y0, K10; Position 100 C6, M3, Y0, K40.
Small top segment: Angle -120 degrees, Edge pad 35, Position 0 C6, M3, Y0, K35; Position 50 C5, M2, Y0, K15; Position 100 C6, M3, Y0, K10.
