Rendering Complex Objects - page 4
Pretty good but the center looks too flat to me. Create a circle slightly smaller than the "gray" area in the center of the background and fill with C=6, M=0, Y=13, K=20. To get the front-to-back order correct duplicate the (Ctrl+D) background, move off to the side a bit, shift click select the new circle and go the Arrange Menu and reverse the order. Delete the extra background. Duplicate the circle and reduce it to about 20% of the original size and place somewhat right and high of center. Reduce the "K" content to 10%. Shift click both circles X out the outline and apply a blend of 10 steps. Note; DRAW will not blend in less than one percent steps so there is no point is selecting a higher blend value.
Select the lettering inside the bezel and temporarily color it with anything that will stand out. Select the six ellipses inside the ear piece indent and fill them with black and no outline. Now select the outside ear piece ellipse and convert it to curves (Ctrl+Q). Duplicate this ellipse and reduce it to about 10% of original size. Use the Node Edit tool to modify the shape and position it as shown. Fill the outside shape with black and the inside with 75% of black. Shift click select X out the outlines and apply a blend with 25 steps.
Next select the overall bezel shape and apply a black fill with no outline. Use the Transform Roll-up to apply a 90% horizontal and vertical scale to a duplicate of the bezel. Check your preferences and make sure that your nudge is set to 0.01 inch. Nudge the dupe left five clicks and down five clicks. Again use the Transform Roll-up to apply a 90% horizontal and vertical scale to a duplicate of the bezel. Nudge the dupe left five clicks and down five clicks. Change the color of this object to C=5, M=2, Y=0, K=80. Shift click both of the inner shapes and apply a blend of 20 steps.
