Rendering Complex Objects - page 7
Select the front shape and fill with C=5, M=2, Y=0, K=80 with no outline. Use the Transform Roll-up to apply a 95% horizontal and vertical scale to a duplicate of the front. Choose the radial fill (F11) and apply the following: Linear, Custom 90 degrees, Position 0, C=5, M=2, Y=0, K=80; Position 50, C=5, M=2, Y=0, K=80; Position 100, C=5, M=2, Y=0, K=80. (Shown with red outline). Yes, all of the colors are the same.
Use the Transform Roll-up to apply a 65% horizontal and vertical scale to a duplicate of the new shape. Choose the radial fill (F11) and modify the following: Position 50, C=5, M=2, Y=0, K=55. You are about to blend radial fills. This will only work IF all the position numbers are EXACTLY the same. Shift click both shapes and apply a blend of 25. This type of blend can drag down the display speed of your computer considerably, particularly at higher magnifications. If your project requires the use of this type of blend, save it for close to the end of the project.
Use the pencil tool and the constrain key to create the shape shown with the red outline. This will become the basis for a highlight and must be a closed shape. Check the wire frame view to make sure the shape does not overlap any of the blends previously created.
